Reflection

I’ve followed different kinds of blogs for several years now and have been inspired (one too many times) to do something a blogger has shared, like read a new book or redecorate my kitchen. I love the concept of being able to share and interact with others through a blog, but I never really thought of myself as a blogger.

As part of my internet for school librarian class I was asked to do just that, start a blog. I was apprehensive at first, I did not know what exactly I would want to blog about, but luckily I was assigned specific topics. Nonetheless, it was still quite intimidating.

My first few posts were time-consuming as I spent hours trying to express exactly what I wanted to share on my blog. As I began to post I became more familiar and comfortable with the process and found that my thoughts were easier to sort out. Although I love technology and I am quite familiar with most of the things I blogged about, it still put me out of my comfort zone.

My favorite blog posts using technology were Podcasts in Education, Videos & QR Codes in the Library and Creating Screencasts. These were my favorite because they are versatile tools to use in education. They can be used by teachers and students as part of any lesson or topic. I think students will open up to the idea of creating them for school projects or use them as a study reference.  I see how they can all prove to be beneficial when used for educational purposes.

My most challenging post was Toons and Comics. On this post, I was asked to create three different comic strips using three different websites. What I found most difficult was coming up with the concepts for each strip. I think that this project is something that needs a lot of brainstorming before you attempt to do it. This knowledge will be helpful when I assign a similar project to students. I’ll know that they need to have a clear idea and concept in mind before they begin the strip.

Overall I have enjoyed my new experience and can add blogger to my growing list of personal and professional abilities. Many of the things I explored through this blog will be hugely beneficial to my classroom and future library. I plan to add more entries to this blog as I come along new resources.
